HIP HOP NAGPUR
It’s a great thing that art like hip hop is also being appreciated in India today. Hip Hop is music which got originated in the late 70s in Bronx New York. India got its own hip hop scene after bohemia released a rap song in the Bollywood movie Chandni chowk to china named after its title, but got recognition after the 2019 movie gully boy representing the life of Mumbai rappers Neazy and Divine, it’s a fascinating fact to know that today Nagpur also has its own hip hop scene with many rappers hustling in the town.
Now let’s go back 10 years now from when not many rappers were in the town but only some rappers such as Dj Yogesh, zmc, the military minds crew were in the scene these rappers were unknown and had just started writing raps on their own and all of them started releasing their songs in 2016 out of which “rap wali baatcheet” by dj Yogesh got a boom hype and was a very successful song and got appreciated all over youtube now far back were zmc (zero mile crew) whose song beech me stith was creating a buzz in the town, military minds though underrated but were popular among the underground scene in Nagpur.
In 2019 the song released “garam hai” by Narc (Nagpur artist of rap community) got released which put Nagpur straight in front of the hip hop scene all over India. By the year 2020 Nagpur had a full-blown scene of underground hip hop were regular meets and Cyphers are conducted in Nagpur where all the hip hop artists commute and play their songs and battle with each other.
The five pillars of hip hop mainly rapping, b-boying, graffiti, djing, and mc ing have found a grip on Nagpur people and many are appreciating the artform by learning it and presenting it. The Nagpur hip hop scene has a variety of music in their own as dj Yogesh is known for his gangsta style music, zmc and narc for mainstream hip hop and military minds for its protest poetry, among these also are many other rappers such as crygene, m fabby, Aniesh Rana, Rahul Chaudhuri, resemble to name a few which are doing great work in hip hop scene, with their independent arts.
It’s a very early stage in Indian in hip hop to determine the best ones as the hip hop fire is just lit and everyone is just starting. I myself a rapper from the scene would say Nagpur also has some fine talent that will one day be recognized all over the world or at least in India. India doesn’t have a separate music industry but with the boon of Hip Hop a horizon is visible for the music industry in India to rise as sun and show its brightness with this is Mujor the rapper signing off giving you a brief of Nagpur hip hop scene .adios.
